Han, Chul Soo
President, KAFS
General and Mrs. Park Seon-woo, Deputy Commander of the ROK-U.S. CFC, Leslie Bassett, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Korea, Lt General Champoux, Commander of 8thUS Army, Distinguished guests from the U.S. Embassy Korea, USFK and AMCHAM Korea, members of Korea America Friendship Society, ladies and gentlemen,
First and foremost, I would like to extend my most sincere gratitude to everyone for taking time out of their busy schedule to attend tonight’s event. My special thanks to General Park Seon-Woo as this is his first ROK-US friendship night event hosted by KAFS.
General Park assumed his position as the Deputy Commander of ROK-U.S. CFC on 27 September. He is an outstanding general in every sense of the word with rich and exceptional experiences in key commanding and staff positions. Most recently, he served as the Chief Director of Operation at ROK JCS and contributed greatly to the development of the ROK-U.S. relations. Plus he is one of my beloved KMA junior. I hope to see him contribute further in improving our combined readiness as well as the friendship between the two great nations as the Deputy Commander of ROK-U.S. CFC.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome General and Mrs. Park with a warm round of applause.
Recently the situation surrounding the Korean peninsula has been quite unstable. Moreover, uncertainties and the regional conflict are growing increasingly acute with territorial disputes among neighboring countries. At this juncture, the allied partnership between Korea and the United States must continue to develop based on the close ties and mutual trust we have cultivated over the last 60 years.
I am certain that the ROK-U.S. Alliance will continue to develop despite these ever changing international environments. It is because our relationship was forged during the Korean War and the Vietnam War and was solidified through mutual cooperation in the international arena.
Korea America Friendship Society will continue to make every effort in promoting friendship between the two great nations and I am very pleased and proud that we are taking part in this great endeavor.
Tonight is a night to celebrate our friendship and to become closer to each other. I sincerely wish that everyone will enjoy tonight’s event.
I’d be remiss if I failed to recognize the sponsors and KAFS members who have put this event together. And my special thanks to Gen. Lee Seok-bok, chairman of the organizing committee of tonight’s event and the committee members.
Christmas is just around the corner. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you.
