Welcoming Remarks for 2015 Korea America Year End Friendship Night

Distinguished guests, KAFS members, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to thank you for attending tonight’s event, even though it comes at a busy time at the end of the year. I am pleased to see everyone get together for this Korea America Friendship Year End Party.
First of all, let me introduce General Kim Hyun-jip, who was appointed Deputy Commander of ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command on September 17th, this year.
General Kim was commissioned as the 36th Korea Military Academy graduating class member in 1980. He is an joint operations expert, successfully serving in critical posts across the military in the operations realm since his commissioning, including Chief of the Operations of the Third Republic of Korea Army, Commander of the 28th Infantry Division, Commander of the 5th Corps, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Commander of the Third Republic of Korea Army. It is expected that he will greatly contribute to further strengthening the combat readiness posture of the ROK-U.S. Combined forces Command.

Distinguished guests,
Republic of Korea and the U.S. have built the most powerful allied defense structure in the world. I believe that it is more durable and stronger, because it was achieved through bloodshed comradeship built in fighting against communism.
In the meantime, the ROK-U.S. alliance has been a reliable fortification behind Korea’s lofty accomplishments and plays a critical role in consolidating two nations’ friendship and trust.
The alliance has advanced to such a level that it is impossible to explain it based solely on material interests or security. Republic of Korea will go forward together hand-in-hand as an eternal friend of the U.S.
We, members of the Korea America Friendship Society, are all volunteers in making contributions to enhance the ROK-U.S. relationship. We hope all our efforts will continue to reinforce ROK-U.S. friendship, and our efforts provide greater value that we all can be proud of. We promise we will work even harder in the future.
Let me take this opportunity to say just a little bit more.
We, Korean people as well as Korea America Friendship Society members, sincerely appreciate the contribution of U.S. soldiers who fought with us to protect freedom and democracy during the Korean War. We will never forget U.S. soldier’s noble sacrifice.
Tonight, we have prepared this party to cement our friendship. Please enjoy the tonight’s event, dinner, good company and performance.
To the Korea America Friendship Society members and the many people who have sponsored this event, I sincerely thank you for your efforts.
