I would like to sincerely thank everyone for taking the time out of your busy schedule to attend tonight’s event.
Tonight, we prepared this event to comfort and encourage all the exemplary soldiers of the USFK who came to Korea far away from home, serving to protect Republic of Korea and liberal democracy.
Ladies and gentlemen, first of all, let’s give a warm round of applause for all the service members of USFK attended to this event.
And, I would like to take this opportunity to honor their noble sacrifice and express deepest appreciation to all the Korean War veterans who had fought bravely in the Korean War to defend Republic of Korea and protect its people they never knew and they never met.
It was their blood, sweat, and tears that became the seed of the ROK’s freedom, peace, and prosperity as well as the cornerstone which transformed the war-torn nation into an economic powerhouse. Our people will never forget their noble sacrifice and help. They will forever remain in our hearts as true heroes.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The situation surrounding Korean Peninsula has been shaking sharply. As you know, there were the inter-Korean summit in Panmunjom on April 27 and US-North Korea summit in Singapore on June 21. Many efforts to remove the North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats and establish the peace system of the Korean peninsula has been going off since the two summits.
We had undergone trial and errors many times in the process of various negotiations to remove the North Korean nuclear threat for a long time, including the Six-party Talks. I hope the North Korean nuclear threat will be removed certainly in this time by analyzing the failed reasons of the negotiations thoroughly.
Ladies and gentlemen,
We cherish a very special relationship in the form of ROK-US alliance. Not only did the two nations fight shoulder to shoulder in the wars of Korea, Asia and Mideast, but also have maintained the close global partnerships in many areas such as expanding the mutual economic exchanges and keeping the peace of the world.
Particularly, The ROK-US Combined Forces system, the core of the ROK-US Alliance, as it has been operated effectively for 40 years since ROK-US Combined Forces Command was founded in 1978 and fulfilled the mutual confidence and sticky cohesion, efficient operational interoperability, utmost Intelligence and Command & Control system, is both unique and the most powerful combined system in the world, and has been developed to the highest level to maximize the ROK-US combined strength.
Based upon this powerful strength of the ROK-US combined forces system, we have to continue to deter the war in Korean peninsula and take advantage of this chance to remove the North Korean nuclear and missile threats obviously with the close coordination of the two nations.
Futhermore, If we develop the ROK-US combined forces system actively, it will play a critical role to conduct the Northeast Asia Strategy of United States and will be a good asset to contribute for the stability of Northeast Asia, so we must sustain and develop the system and should not be weaken or damaged by any change of circumstances.
Ladies and gentlemen, let’s all continue to work for the ROK-US Alliance.
