U.S. Forces Korea held a Ceremony to commemorate Memorial Day

The U.S. Forces Korea(USFK) held a ceremony to commemorate Memorial Day at the Barker Field located in its headquarters(Camp Humphrey, Pyeongtaek) on May 28. The Memorial Day was first proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan in his General Order No. 11 and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers.

In his eulogy, Robert Abrams, Commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command and the U.S. Forces Korea, reiterated the significance of Memorial Day as it is an event to commemorate all those who have sacrificed their lives for the United States of America. He also stressed the importance of the ROK-US alliance for it serves to protect the values of liberal democracy shared by both U.S. and Republic of Korea.

The Korea America Friendship Society (KAFS) donated flowers to this event and President Hwang Jin ha attended the memorial service.
